Trinity EMS terminates contract with Lowell General in favor of Steward Health Care

Lowell, Mass.-based Trinity EMS declined to renew its medical directorship contract with Lowell (Mass.) General Hospital and, instead, signed a deal with Boston-based Steward Health Care, according to The Sun.

The medical directorship contract dictates who Trinity emergency medical technicians will call if they need a physician's advice when caring for a patient. The medical director also maintains some authority over the Trinity's training program and policies, according to the report.

Trinity, along with the local fire department, is contracted by the city to provide basic life support and advanced life support services to residents. According to the report, Trinity subcontracts roughly 90 percent of its ALS cases to LGH paramedics.

With the new agreement, the city will now have two medical directors: one for LGH's ALS teams and one for Trinity's EMTs based at Steward Health Care.
