Atlanta-based SunLink Health Systems and Oklahoma City-based Foundation Healthcare Affiliates have ended discussions to merge, according to a SunLink news release.
Robert Thornton, SunLink chairman and CEO, said "differences in the parties' respective business models, philosophies and operating assets drove the decision not to move forward," according to the release.
The organizations signed a letter of intent for a non-cash merger in April, resulting in a new combined company named Foundation SunLink Healthcare Affiliates. Foundation HealthCare Affiliates is a physician-centric development and management company of outpatient surgical facilities and surgical hospitals. SunLink operates six community hospitals in the Southeast and Midwest.
SunLink plans to focus its strategic efforts on enhancing its existing hospital portfolio and pursuing other hospital acquisitions, according to the release.
