Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford and Goodall Hospital in Sanford, Maine, have announced the formation of a new parent company, Southern Maine Health Care, to be the York County member of MaineHealth System in Portland.
Goodall Hospital recently received regulatory approval to join MaineHealth, and SMMC has been a member since 2009.
Through the formation of Southern Maine Health Care, SMMC and Goodall Hospital will work together to develop integrated services and operations to enhance patient care, control the rising cost of healthcare and improve the health of the communities they serve, according to the release. SMMC and Goodall Hospital remain separate organizations at this time, each with its own operations and staff.
