Somerset Medical Center in Somerville, N.J., announced it has entered merger discussions with the New Brunswick, N.J.-based Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
Last month, Somerset officials announced they had narrowed their potential merger partners to RWJUH and Morristown, N.J.-based Atlantic Health System. While both organizations' leaders said in a news release they have shared visions, community commitments and physician relationships, details regarding Somerset's selection of RWJUH over Atlantic were not shared.
Financial details of the proposed merger were also not disclosed, although Somerset Board Chairman Paul Stahlin said the two organizations are "very close to finalizing the necessary definitive agreement documents," according to the release.
