Sequoyah Memorial Hospital, Northeastern Health System plan management agreement: 4 things to know

Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw, Okla., approved a letter of intent for a management agreement with Tahlequah, Okla.-based Northeastern Health System, according to Sequoyah County Times report.

Here are four things to know.

1. Under the agreement, NHS would provide billing services for SMH, leadership development and surgical assessment, among other things, according to the report.

2. Specifically, NHS will receive 4 percent of gross collections for billing services and a fixed monthly management fee of $15,000 from SMH, reports Sequoyah County Times.

3. SMH to would still own and manage the hospital.

4. "This proposal will bring a number of attributes to this facility that other proposals can't offer," Rick Wagner, a certified public accountant with Eide Bailly who recently outlined the agreement for SMH board members, said in the report. "The Northeast Health System brings with it the Cherokee Health Partnership, which no other proposal offers. The Cherokee Health partners will be able to increase procedures here, push up the volume of clients and offer services of surgeons and specialists."
