Halifax Regional Health System in South Boston, Va., has officially merged with Sentara Healthcare, based in Norfolk, Va.
The transaction is valued at more than $155 million, according to Juniper Advisory, the Chicago-based firm that managed the merger process. Sentara set aside most of that money as a cash infusion for Halifax.
Halifax chose Sentara after an 18-month review process. The two organizations signed a definitive agreement in May.
Sentara now has 11 acute-care hospitals within its system. Halifax is a 192-bed regional referral center with more than 100 physicians.
