Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health revealed plans to expand its international presence by establishing partnerships in five new countries and increasing its presence in two others, the health system announced Jan. 23.
This year, the 45-hospital system's international healthcare arm, Sanford World Clinic, will launch partnerships in New Zealand, Ireland, Vietnam, Costa Rica and South Africa and expand its existing affiliations in China and Ghana.
With the expansion, Sanford World Clinic will manage 30-plus locations across nine countries. Officials said the health system aims to establish three to five new partnerships each year. Last November, Sanford Health acquired a minority stake in a German health system.
"With these partnerships, we are creating unique opportunities for shared learning," said Sanford Health President and CEO Kelby Krabbenhoft. "This is not something we are pursuing for financial gain, but we believe this type of collaboration will help further our mission of health and healing."
