Salem (Ore.) Health has chosen to affiliate with Oregon Health & Science University in Portland.
Norman Gruber, president and CEO of Salem Health, said in a news release the two organizations are discussing a potential affiliation, but nothing definitive has been signed yet. "However, I am encouraged by our progress to date," he said.
Terms of a potential deal were not disclosed. This past November, Salem Health announced it had received partnership offers from seven different healthcare organizations. The two-hospital system has been looking for a partner for a few years "because we want to be in front of the changes that are coming," Mr. Gruber said previously. "We want to be able to pick a partner and not be forced into a partnership."
OHSU is Oregon's only academic medical center and includes OHSU Hospital and OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital, both in Portland. Salem Health already partners with OHSU on one service line, as the Salem Cancer Institute and OHSU Knight Cancer Institute have been affiliated for several years.
