Saint Luke's Cancer Institute, Washington University of St. Louis medical school partner to improve access to clinical trials

Saint Luke's Cancer Institute, part of Kansas City, Mo.-based Saint Luke's Health System, will become a clinical trials affiliate of the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, effective June 1, according to a Benzinga report.

Under the affiliation agreement, patients and physicians at Saint Luke's Cancer Institute will have access to approximately 175 trials of investigational therapies and 35 other cancer-related trials, according to the report. Patients involved in the trials will remain under the care of their Saint Luke's physicians.

"Washington University School of Medicine is one of the nation's top medical research institutions, recognized by the National Cancer Institute as a Comprehensive Cancer Center," said Timothy Pluard, MD, medical director of the Saint Luke's Cancer Institute. "This is a significant affiliation and offers tremendous benefit to our patients by making available a larger number of the latest NCI clinical trials."
