Rutherford Regional, Mission Health Terminate Merger Plan

Mission Health, based in Asheville, N.C., and Rutherfordton, N.C.-based Rutherford Regional Health System have mutually agreed to terminate their nonbinding memorandum of understanding for RRHS to become a member of Mission Health.

The two health systems began negotiating a memorandum of understanding for an affiliation in September 2012 and signed the agreement in January.

"Although Mission remains committed to supporting the Rutherford community regardless of this outcome, we respect and appreciate RRHS' view that there are other potential partners who may create more value, and we wish them great success," said Ronald A. Paulus, MD, president and CEO of Mission Health, in a news release.
