Rush Oak Park (Ill.) Hospital will shed its status as a Catholic hospital as Chicago-based Rush University Medical Center completes the final step of its 15-year deal to acquire it, according to a report by Crain's Chicago Business.
RUMC took control of operations of the Oak Park facility in 1993, keeping in place Catholic care policies restricting some reproductive services and drugs. The two organizations signed a letter of intent to transfer ownership of Rush Oak Park to RUMC on March 28 for $21 million.
The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board and the Chicago Archdiocese must approve the acquisition.
