Rochester General Hospital System, Unity Health System Merger Finalized

Rochester (N.Y.) General Hospital System and Unity Health System, also based in Rochester, have filed the necessary documents to finalize a merger between the two systems, according to a Rochester Business Journal report.

Rochester General and Unity initially entered merger talks in April 2013, and the two systems' boards signed a merger agreement in September 2013. The New York Department of Health's Public Health and Health Planning Council granted preliminary approval of the merger in March.

Last month the systems' boards approved the merger and the merger received approval from state and federal regulators.

Under the agreement, a single parent company will oversee the direction of Rochester General, Unity and all of their affiliates. Unity CEO Warren Hern and Rochester General CEO Mark Clement will each step down after the new system's board names a CEO, according to the report.
