Rideout Regional Medical Center, Sutter-Yuba Behavioral Health collaborate on mental health program

Marysville, Calif.-based Rideout Regional Medical Center, in collaboration with Yuba City, Calif.-based Sutter-Yuba Behavioral Health and Emeryville, Calif.-based CEP America, are working together on a collaborative mental health program to provide patients with quality care and to notify them of community resources available for use.

The Mental Health Emergency Stabilization Initiative focuses on providing team-based care in emergency departments, collaborating with county behavioral health leaders and the use of telepsychiatry technology from CEP America to reduce admissions and provide safer discharges to other community providers.

Through the collaboration, behavioral health workers will be able to quickly complete psychiatric assessments, evaluate any physiological health issues and provide comprehensive treatment plans to help patients transition back into their communities safely and successfully.

"The exciting part of the initiative is that our collaborative team approach has created a groundbreaking program that can be replicated at other Emergency Departments nationwide," said Derek Orchard, DO, medical director of Rideout Regional Medical Center's emergency department. "Our nation's EDs and mentally ill patients need and deserve a better approach to care. The team at Rideout is proud to be at the forefront of this highly promising and innovative program."
