Rhode Island officials approve Westerly Hospital’s partnership with Yale-New Haven Health

State officials approved the sale of Westerly (R.I.) Hospital to Yale-New Haven (Conn.) Health Services, the parent company of Yale University's Schools of Medicine and Nursing, according to the Providence Journal.

Yale-New Haven Health Services plans to invest nearly $300 million in facilities in Connecticut and Rhode Island over the next five years.

The health department's approval includes a number of stipulations, including that Westerly submit a plan to encourage oral and behavioral healthcare and a plan to improve the prescribing of opioids and addiction treatment, according to the article.

The affiliation process between the two organizations began in 2014.

The partnership will be effective immediately. It does not involve the purchase or sale of either organization's assets.
