Port Huron Hospital in Michigan Looks to Sell

Requests for proposals to potential buyers of Port Huron (Mich.) Hospital will go out this summer, its board members announced, as the 186-bed non-profit community hospital faces declining population and reimbursement trends.

The board of directors for Blue Water Health Services, the parent company of Port Huron Hospital, has hired Chicago-based consulting firm Juniper Advisory to assist in the review process, which could take up to one year.

Board Chairman David Thompson said in a news release the hospital is in good financial shape, with "a strong operating margin and continues to have a solid bottom line with very little debt.

"The board will be considering larger, not-for-profit or for-profit organizations that can secure the hospital's future and continue to care for the community," he continued, adding that "an acquisition could result in expanded services, facility modernization and the purchase of new technology. Access to the most advanced care in our community remains a top priority of the board."
