Physician Threatens to Leave Hospital After Board Rejects Medical Staff Recommendation for Affiliation, Selects CHS Instead

At least one physician practicing and Beaufort Regional Health System in Washington, N.C., has said he will end his affiliation with the hospital if it moves forward with an affiliation with Community Health Systems over University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina — the medical staff's recommendation, according to a Washington Daily News report.

Fredrick Teixeira, MD, an internal medicine physician has said he will end his relationship with the hospital if it affiliates with CHS. The board of the hospital approved an affiliation with Franklin, Tenn.-based CHS, despite a recommendation from its medical staff to affiliate with Greenville, N.C.-based University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina.

"I'm not willing to work for CHS because I don't think it's the best thing for the patients I serve," he said.

The BRHS board's approval serves as a recommendation to the Beaufort County Board of Commissioners, who have final say in the matter.
