Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro, JD, approved the integration of Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health System and Jersey Shore (Pa.) Hospital and Foundation.
The transaction will be effective July 1.
During a conference call May 17, officials said Geisinger will assume all of Jersey Shore Hospital's assets and liabilities, but that the hospital will remain independently licensed.
It is unclear if the integration will result in layoffs at the 25-bed critical access Jersey Shore Hospital. However, officials said during the conference call all Jersey Shore employees with good standing would have a position with Geisinger and will have the option to transfer to other Geisinger facilities.
The organizations reportedly began discussing the potential partnership about a year ago and signed an integration agreement last month.
