Orlando Health, Lakeland Regional end affiliation after 1 year

Orlando (Fla.) Health and Lakeland (Fla.) Regional Health are ending their affiliation after one year.

The two health systems, which partnered on Oct. 1, 2017, will separate Sept. 30.

Lakeland Regional President and CEO Elaine Thompson said the decision to sever ties came after a careful evaluation of the partnership, which set goals of improving access to care, advancing clinical programs and enhancing the quality of services provided by each system.

"We have concluded that because of our different strategies and distinctive communities served, these goals can best be achieved independently," Ms. Thompson said.

Orlando Health spokesperson Kena Lewis told the Orlando Business Journal that "After serious deliberation, Orlando Health has decided to release Lakeland Regional Health from our health system in exchange for significant financial and strategic consideration."

Throughout their affiliation, both parties maintained their names, logos and other partnerships.
