Portland, Ore.-based OHSU and Adventist Health Portland finalized an agreement to integrate the organizations' clinical activities and services Nov. 15.
Under the deal, which will be effective Jan. 1, 2018, the institutions will share a bottom line and operate as a single entity. Specific businesses within each organization will not be integrated under the agreement, including OHSU's research and education missions, nonmetro clinical activities and Adventist Health's 19 hospitals located across the western U.S.
Each institution will also retain its existing hospital licenses, capital assets and employees, and maintain their individual cultures and missions.
Officials plan to create a single board of managers comprising representatives from both organizations to oversee the combined entity.
"Our affiliation brings together the strength of a respected community hospital system in the metro Portland area with that of the only academic health center in Oregon," said OHSU President Joe Robertson, MD. "The focus Adventist Health Portland has put on quality care and preventive medicine in its community is especially well-regarded and complementary to OHSU’s mission."
