Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health is pursuing a buyer for Franklin Medical Center in Louisburg, N.C., according to a Winston-Salem Journal report.
Here are four things to know about Novant's plans.
1. The plans come months after FMC cut its inpatient acute-care beds from 70 to two and laid off 59 employees.
2. Novant expects to receive firm proposals on FMC by June 30, according to the report.
3. The report points out that Novant has kept the regulatory rights to discontinued beds, as well as continued emergency and outpatient services, including surgery, imaging, laboratory and rehabilitation.
4. In a statement, Patrick Easterling, senior vice president of Novant Health consumer operations, said putting FMC up for sale "provides the best opportunity to meet the long-term healthcare needs of Franklin County," according to the report. He added that the decision reflects "declining demand for inpatient care, combined with reduced payer reimbursement."
