Chicago, Ill.-based Northwestern Memorial Healthcare and Winfield, Ill.-based Cadence Health have completed the agreement that expands Northwestern Medicine, a fully integrated health system.
NMHC and Cadence signed a letter of intent to merge in March, marking Cadence's second attempt to attract a partner after Cadence and Rockford (Ill.) Health System ended merger discussions in January.
The merger takes effect Sept. 1, and Northwestern Medicine will include four hospitals: Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago; Northwestern Lake Forest (Ill.) Hospital; Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield; and Delnor Hospital in Geneva, Ill.
"We are honored to welcome Cadence Health into the Northwestern Medicine family," said Dean M. Harrison, NMHC president and CEO. "Cadence is an ideal health system to combine with as their vision, mission and values are very similar to ours."
