Chicago-based Northwestern Memorial HealthCare and Crystal Lake, Ill.-based Centegra Health System closed their merger deal Sept. 1.
The two health systems have been in negotiations since 2016, when they signed a letter of intent to explore a merger. They signed a definitive agreement to combine in June.
"Together with Centegra's employees, nurses, physicians and staff, we will provide patients in McHenry and Kane Counties more convenient access to clinical trials, the latest in treatment options and the ability to access world class specialized care from one of the best hospitals in the country, Northwestern Memorial Hospital," Dean M. Harrison, president and CEO of Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, said in a press release.
Under the transaction, Centegra's three hospitals joined Northwestern Memorial HealthCare's seven hospitals, and Northwestern will govern, direct and oversee Centegra's business, property and funds.
