The board of directors for Syracuse, N.Y.-based Crouse Hospital approved a proposal to enter into a clinical affiliation with New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health.
Under the agreement, Crouse Hosptial will become a strategic partner of Northwell. Crouse officials will work with Northwell to expand the hospital's primary care network and develop additional care management programs to meet the health needs of residents in the area. Northwell will also help the hospital increase its group purchasing and physician recruitment arms and assist in the possible creation of urgent care centers, among other initiatives.
Crouse Hospital will remain an independent facility and will retain its existing board and governance structure.
"Among the key criteria our board, physician leadership and senior leadership team used to evaluate potential partners was a strong alignment and compatibility with the Crouse culture as well as our mission, which is to provide the best in patient care and promote community health. This was a thoughtful and focused process and we were steadfast that whichever partner we chose to align with had to be in sync not only with our mission, but with our core values. We have that in Northwell," said Crouse Hospital CEO and President Kimberly Boynton.
"Working together, our goal is to provide Crouse [Hospital] with the expertise to prosper in this incredibly complex healthcare environment and collaborate with the hospital to help improve the health of Central New York residents, which is at the heart of our mission in the New York metropolitan area," said Michael Dowling, president and CEO of Northwell Health. "For Northwell, this collaboration creates a key strategic alliance in a major upstate hub with a high-quality, financially stable, mission-focused provider that has relationships with numerous other hospitals in the region."
