Great Neck, N.Y.-based North Shore-LIJ Health System and Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., have entered into a strategic partnership designed to help Maimonides better serve the needs of Brooklyn residents.
Discussions to create a strategic affiliation have been ongoing since they were first initiated in February.
North Shore-LIJ and Maimonides will pursue a full integration in a phased approach that will begin immediately with a comprehensive strategic partnership, with both institutions maintaining their independence and separate governance structures. Maimonides will continue to operate as a full-service, tertiary and teaching hospital.
The strategic partnership will include joint ventures and other activities that will strengthen Maimonides and expand its leadership role in the region. North Shore-LIJ will help enlarge Maimonides' ambulatory network of clinical services to position the hospital for success as a lead entity of one of the state's three largest Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment programs. North Shore-LIJ will also provide Maimonides with capital resources and access to its extensive shared services infrastructure and expertise.
Maimonides President and CEO Pamela Brier, who recently announced she will retire at the beginning of 2016 after two decades of leadership, said "North Shore-LIJ will be a great partner for Maimonides. We share a common vision about the need to find innovative approaches for managing care and keeping people healthy. And we have common values about putting patients first and supporting the doctors and other staff who care for them. This partnership with North Shore will — simply put — make an enormous difference in our ability to take better care of people who live in Brooklyn."
