One week after news of affiliation emerged, Pardee Hospital's medical staff has voiced surprise with the hospital's announcement of a possible partnership with University of North Carolina Health Care System in Chapel Hill, according to a Times-News report.
Pardee, a county-owned hospital located Hendersonville, N.C., signed an agreement to share operational information with UNC in confidence on April 11. On April 12, the hospital board publicly announced negotiations.
The hospital's chief surgeon called the announcement a complete surprise, saying hospital staff was "blindsided."
The chairman of the Henderson County Board of Commissioners held the discussions with UNC about a possible managerial partnership. "I took it upon myself to explore this possibility without bringing in the medical staff," Chairman Mike Edney said, according to the report.
