Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center was asked to "review the acquisition" of Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, N.J., but has decided not to partake in the opportunity, according to a Montclair Times report.
The 365-bed Mountainside is currently owned by Merit Health Systems, based in Louisville, Ky. A Hackensack official confirmed that the organization had been approached with an opportunity to acquire Mountainside, but the official said they decided not to participate and did not elaborate further, according to the report.
It is unknown whether Merit has asked any other medical centers or health systems about buying Mountainside, according to the report.
