Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Health Center in Lewiston, N.Y., has become a full member of Catholic Health.
Mount St. Mary's was an affiliate of St. Louis-based Ascension Health. Catholic Health is a joint venture between Ascension, Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health and the Diocese of Buffalo.
Here are five things to know about the merger.
1. As part of the deal, Mount St. Mary’s joins Catholic Health's other regional hospitals, which include Mercy Hospital of Buffalo (N.Y.), Kenmore (N.Y.) Mercy Hospital, Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo and its St. Joseph Campus in Cheektowaga, N.Y., and its affiliate member, Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville, N.Y. The Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence will remain part of Ascension Health.
2. In joining Catholic Health, Mount St. Mary's will have full access to Catholic Health's administrative and corporate services and be part of its broad network of healthcare services, which serve patients throughout Western New York, according to a news release.
3. Plans also call for enhancing primary and ambulatory services, expanding home and community based services, improving operational efficiencies and hospital performance and supporting physician recruitment to enhance care throughout Niagara County.
4. The merger is not the first collaboration between the two entities. Catholic Health and Mount St. Mary's have been working together under a collaborative services agreement since 2012, according to a news release. In addition, Mount St. Mary's Hospital and its physicians are also members of Catholic Medical Partners, a clinically integrated physician network that also includes Catholic Health and its physicians.
5. New York State Health Department officials approved plans for the merger in December of last year.
