Mount Auburn joins Beth Israel Deaconess, Lahey merger: 3 things to know

Cambridge, Mass.-based Mount Auburn Hospital will join a proposed merger between Boston-based Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Burlington, Mass.-based Lahey Health, The Boston Globe reports.

Here are three things to know.

1. The addition brings the total number of hospitals involved in the merger to 11. They include Beth Israel Deaconess' four hospitals, Lahey's four hospitals, Mount Auburn, Boston-based New England Baptist Hospital and Newburyport, Mass.-based Anna Jaques Hospital.

2. Mount Auburn CEO Jeanette Clough told The Boston Globe the hospital board "carefully reviewed the opportunity and is now ready to accept the invitation to join what we believe will be a robust and value driven system that aligns with our mission of excellence with compassion."

3. The proposed merger is pending regulatory approval. The resulting entity would be the second-largest health system in Massachusetts following Boston-based Partners HealthCare, according to the report.
