Mercy, a multistate health system based in Chesterfield, Mo., has initiated discussions to manage 249-bed Oklahoma State University Medical Center in Tulsa.
The potential agreement has been in the works for more than a year, and a partnership first came to light last May. Under a "long-term" management contract, Mercy will make unspecified investments to update OSU Medical Center. Specific financial details of the transaction were not disclosed, as an agreement has not been officially signed yet.
OSU Medical Center, one of the largest osteopathic teaching hospitals in the country, is overseen by the state-run Oklahoma State University Medical Authority. No timeline was given for when Mercy would fully take over OSU Medical Center's operations.
In 2012, OSU Medical Center ended its management agreement with St. John Health System, also in Tulsa.
