McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Ohio, and Cincinnati-based Mercy Health have decided to end exclusive affiliation negotiations.
In December, the two organizations announced they were discussing a possible strategic affiliation, with McCullough-Hyde retaining local ownership and control. However, executives said they couldn't reach a definitive deal because they "could not align on a set of common strategic priorities," according to a news release.
McCullough-Hyde and Mercy Health will continue their loose clinical affiliation for orthopedic and cardiology services. McCullough-Hyde will also reopen partnership discussions with other health systems.
The McCullough-Hyde board began investigating potential affiliations in October 2012. The hospital decided to explore affiliation options to maintain a position of financial strength and prepare for future changes and challenges.
