Memorial Health, HealthSouth Plan Enter Into Rehab Hospital Joint Venture

Savannah, Ga.-based Memorial Health has signed an agreement to form a joint venture with Birmingham, Ala.-based rehabilitative hospital services provider HealthSouth Corp. to own and operate a 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital.

The Rehabilitation Hospital of Savannah will initially operate in the location of Memorial Health's Rehabilitation Institute, which is on the Memorial University Medical Center campus in Savannah, according to a news release. Through the joint venture, HealthSouth and Memorial Health plan to build and relocate the Rehabilitation Hospital of Savannah to a new, 50-bed replacement rehabilitation facility, which is expected to be completed in early 2016.

"Memorial Health has a long history of providing excellent clinical care," said Linda Wilder, president of HealthSouth's southeast region, in the release. "This joint venture will uniquely position the hospital to continue to provide a high-quality physical rehabilitation program in a new, state-of-the-art facility. We look forward to working together with Memorial Health to provide inpatient rehabilitative treatment and technology to the residents of Savannah and the surrounding areas."

The project is still subject to regulatory review and approval by the Georgia Department of Community Health, according to the release. Additionally, the joint venture operations are subject to customary closing conditions.
