Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, and Northern Light Health in Brewer, Maine, received a key approval to create Maine's second-largest healthcare system, according to Mainebiz.
Three things to know:
1. On June 11, the state legislature approved a resolution to make the semi-government agency that owns and operates Mayo a nonprofit corporation owned by Northern Light.
2. Democratic Gov. Janet Mills has 10 days to sign the bill. If passed, the bill would be a key next step for Northern Light to grow its nine-hospital system to 10.
3. Northern Light and Mayo Regional announced their proposed combination in February.
