Pittsburgh-based St. Clair Hospital will be the 41st organization to join the Mayo Clinic Care Network, operated by the Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic, according to Trib Live.
Under terms of the agreement, St. Clair physicians can consult Mayo Clinic physicians get a second or third opinion on difficult diagnoses.
The consultations will be available to patients as of Aug. 24 and will be completely free for patients.
Mayo Clinc physicians will also be available to participate in group discussions on how to treat cancerous tumors, according to the article. Mayo also will provide educational materials for patients, nurses and physicians, along with step-by-step guides on diagnosing complex illnesses.
The two organizations entered into a year-long, automatically renewing agreement. St. Clair officials declined to discuss financial details of the transaction, according to the article.
