Executives at Richmond University Medical Center in Staten Island, N.Y., have disclosed that they are in partnership talks with Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., according to a Staten Island Advance report.
Kathryn Krause Rooney, the chairwoman of Richmond University's board of trustees, told the Staten Island Advance, the community standalone hospital model is "not the future of healthcare.
"The days of a small hospital by itself are over," she said. "We need to move toward a partnership in the next year or two. That's the future. A collaboration is important, and we are open to a collaboration that makes sense for Richmond University Medical Center and for the Staten Island community."
RUMC and Maimonides officials did not disclose any other details, such as if a letter of intent had been reached or when a deal would be announced.
