Allentown, Pa.-based Lehigh Valley Health Network officials said the merger between LVHN and Pottsville, Pa.-based Schuylkill Health will take effect Sept. 16, according to The Morning Call.
Schuylkill Health officials voiced some concern over the merger, but agreed after LVHN offered to assume the hospital's debts earlier this week.
LVHN officials said the merger agreement has been approved by the necessary regulatory agencies.
According to the agreement, two of Schuylkill's Pottsville locations will be renamed Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill East Norwegian Street and Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill South Jackson Street.
LVHN officials also said that William Reppy, current vice president of operations and chief safety officer at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton, will serve as the new president of Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill, according to the article.
Mr. Reppy said in a press release that services such as intensive care, inpatient medical-surgical units, operating rooms and pediatrics will be provided at the East Norwegian Street campus. Adult and adolescent behavioral health and obstetrics will remain at the South Jackson Street campus, according to the article.
Mr. Reppy also said that he expects the integration of the two campuses to be completed by late fall, but that the overall plan to merge the two will take some time, according to the article.
