Louisiana women's hospital, cancer center partner to create cancer pavilion

Woman's Hospital and Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, both in Baton Rouge, La., are teaming up to make cancer care more accessible to women across the state, according to The Advocate.

As part of the agreement, the organizations will build a $14 million breast and gynecologic cancer pavilion, which officials expect to open in spring 2018 at Woman's Hospital.

Todd Stevens, president and CEO of Mary Bird Perkins, told The Advocate the partnership will allow both institutions to work together and avoid duplicating facilities and spending.

The pavilion will offer diagnostic services, outpatient surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and hold physician offices. Woman's Hospital will also relocate one of its MRI machines to the pavilion to make treatment more convenient for cancer patients, the report states.

The facility will also house a pharmacy connected to the pavilion.
