The CEOs of Charlotte, N.C.-based Carolinas HealthCare System and Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health launched a partnership to improve access to healthcare for distressed communities in Charlotte, according to The Charlotte Observer.
The partnership represents the first of its kind for the two competing health systems.
Eugene Woods, president and CEO of Carolinas HealthCare, and Carl Armato, president and CEO of Novant Health, have met at least six times to discuss ways the health systems can collaborate on existing or new ventures, according to the article.
Neither health system has committed a specific dollar amount to the initiative, though both executives said they are prepared to invest resources, including money and staff, to the cause, according to the article.
"This is a joint opportunity for us to unite resources that will hopefully address long-term outcomes," said Mr. Armato.
