The boards of LifeBridge Health, a four-hospital system in Baltimore, and Elkton, Md.-based Union Hospital of Cecil County signed a letter of intent to merge Jan. 18.
Under the letter of intent, Union Hospital and its affiliates will join LifeBridge Health and maintain representation on LifeBridge's board of directors.
The agreement indicates the two organizations will enter into exclusive negotiations and due diligence. Officials do not expect to formulate a final agreement — which will require approval by the boards of both organizations and regulatory approval — for several months.
