Wellsboro, Pa.-based Laurel Health System's integration into Susquehanna Health System in Williamsport, Pa., became effective Sept. 1 after receiving regulatory approval.
The two organizations signed a definitive agreement to merge in early April. Under the deal, the integration will create a healthcare delivery system with the initial goal of increasing access to primary care physicians and specialists in Tioga County, according to the release. In addition, 11 work groups comprised of Susquehanna Health and Laurel Health representatives have been formed to plan for physician recruitment needs, the addition of cancer care in Tioga County and other partnership priorities.
Organizations affected by the deal include Laurel Health System's Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital in Wellsboro, The Green Home in Wellsboro and other services, as well as Susquehanna Health's Williamsport Regional Medical Center, Divine Providence Hospital in Williamsport, Muncy (Pa.) Valley Hospital and the Susquehanna Health Medical Group in Williamsport. The six Laurel Health centers owned and operated by North Penn Comprehensive Health Services in Wellsboro will remain independent.
Steven Johnson, president and CEO of Susquehanna Health, will remain the CEO of the expanded Susquehanna Health System. Ron Butler, president and CEO of Laurel Health, will assume the role of executive vice president and chief business office for Susquehanna Health. Laurel Health System COO and Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital President Jan Fisher will become the new COO of Susquehanna Health.
