The two healthcare organizations signed a letter of intent to consider a partnership in August. Under the agreement, LRH will pay Avera a fee for a given set of services. LRH will have its own board and maintain local decision-making. All LRH workers will remain employees of the hospital, and benefits and other terms of employment won't change, according to a news release.
The affiliation will allow LRH to obtain physician recruitment assistance and take advantage of cost-savings opportunities for capital equipment, supplies and malpractice insurance. Additionally, LRH plans to implement the electronic health record system Avera uses and expects it to go live by May of next year, according to the release.
