Several leaders of healthcare organizations on Hospital Hill in Kansas City, Mo., signed a memo to launch a health sciences district, which would enable them to join forces on research, recruitment and security, The Kansas City Star reports.
The two-mile University of Missouri Kansas City Health Sciences District includes UMKC School of Medicine, Truman Medical Centers, Children's Mercy Hospital and the Kansas City, Missouri, Health Department, among other institutions. All organizations stand within a few blocks of each other.
While several of the organizations have collaborated for research, education and public health campaigns in the past, officials said creating the district will help the organizations gain grants and implement further community outreach.
A 20-person board of directors and individual councils will be chosen for the district. In addition, Hospital Hill will acquire new signage to denote the collaboration, the report states.
