State officials have approved Buffalo, N.Y.-based Kaleida Health's proposal to become the parent company of Olean, N.Y.-based Upper Allegheny Health System and its member hospitals.
Under the proposal, UAHS and its member organizations — Bradford (Pa.) Regional Medical Center and Olean (N.Y) General Hospital — will become part of Kaleida Health but will remain separate legal entities with their own boards of directors.
The New York State Department of Health and the state's Health Planning Council approved the transaction. Timothy Finan, president and CEO of UAHS, said the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Federal Trade Commission must still review the proposal.
Mr. Finan said officials aim to complete the affiliation later this spring.
The two organization signed a letter of intent to affiliate in May 2016.
"This is another positive step forward in our plans to fully affiliate," said Jody Lomeo, president and CEO of Kaleida Health. "Together, our goal is to continue to support and serve the southern tier and northwestern Pennsylvania communities. We want to continue to collaborate and improve care on the local level."
