Walnut Creek, Calif.-based John Muir Health and Paolo Alto, Calif.-based Stanford Children's Health are continuing to expand an existing partnership to provide community members with access to children's specialty care services.
The partnership has provided families in Contra Costa County access to nearly 50 pediatric specialist physicians and nurse practitioners in 14 specialties since launching in 2012.
In April 2015, the organizations jointly opened a pediatric intensive care unit at John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek, the only PICU in Contra Costa County. The organizations are in the process of finalizing all the necessary steps to have California Children's Services certify the PICU. The PICU is fully licensed by the state of California.
The partnership also provides residents access to outpatient, inpatient, neonatal and emergency care, which enables children with more complex illnesses to see local specialists at John Muir.
