Indiana's Community Health Network and Howard Regional Health System Sign Letter of Intent to Affiliate

James P. Alexander, president and CEO of Howard Regional Health System in Kokomo, Ind., and Bryan Mills, president and CEO of Community Health Network, based in Indianapolis, have announced a formal affiliation between the two organizations, according to a CHN release.

According to the release, the signing of the letter of intent is a proactive response to dramatic changes in the healthcare industry, driven by healthcare reform. According to Mr. Alexander, the affiliation of Howard Regional with CHN will provide the acute-care hospital with access to programs that an independent, stand-alone hospital could not possibly duplicate.

Under the affiliation with CHN, Howard will have access to enhanced group purchasing programs, lower-cost capital, health information and technology resources and enhancements to current evidence-based medicine.

The affiliation will affect a number of facilities affiliated with Howard Regional Health System, including an acute-care hospital, a number of physician services and an extensive ambulatory surgery center.
