Huntsville (Ala.) Hospital Health System will join Curae Health, a new nonprofit health system that will include three hospitals in northwest Alabama, as part of a strategic affiliation agreement that was signed by both parties, according to a news release.
"We are excited about building our new system with Russellville Hospital, Lakeland Community Hospital in Haleyville and Northwest Medical Center in Winfield," said Steve Clapp, CEO of Curae Health, in the news release. "With our strategic affiliation with Huntsville Hospital Health System we will have great opportunities to improve care across northwest Alabama."
Russellville (Ala.) Hospital, Lakeland Community Hospital in Haleyville and Northwest Medical Center in Winfield are being acquired by Curae from Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Hospitals, with the transactions expected to close by the end of the year, according to a news release.
According to a news release, Huntsville Hospital Health System CEO David Spillers shares Curae's goal of "positioning rural community hospitals for long-term success."
"Our affiliation with Curae fits with what we’re doing across the Tennessee Valley," said Mr. Spillers in a news release. "By supporting not-for-profit healthcare, we help ensure that local communities can determine what is best for them, while having the advantage of a larger partner nearby."
Mr. Spillers said in the news release that Curae would be able to participate in group purchasing of supplies through HHHS and use the system's continuing education opportunities, physician recruiting and "other clinical and operational services."
At the same time, HHHS won't be financially responsible for Curae or have investments in Curae, according to Mr. Spillers.
