Springfield, Ill.-based Hospital Sisters Health System and Greenville (Ill.) Regional Hospital have signed a letter of intent to begin the process of exploring an affiliation.
Under the affiliation, HSHS would own Greenville Regional's building and assume the assets and liabilities of the hospital, an HSHS spokesman told the Belleville News-Democrat.
"Greenville Regional Hospital has proudly served the community since 1960. As we look to the future, we recognize that patients expect their care to be highly coordinated and easy to access," Greenville Regional Hospital President and CEO Brian Nall said in a news release. "We have worked with many different healthcare providers from Illinois and Missouri over the years to bring specialized healthcare services to our patients. As we looked for a long-term partner, we found HSHS was a good fit for our culture and that our missions are closely aligned."
HSHS is a multi-institutional healthcare system comprised of 14 hospitals and an integrated physician network across Illinois and Wisconsin.
Greenville Regional is an independent, nonprofit hospital, providing residents of Bond and surrounding counties with inpatient, outpatient and emergency care services. Its medical staff includes employed physicians and more than 50 specialty physicians.
The entities will spend the coming months going through the due diligence process. After that process is completed, a final decision will be made on whether Greenville Regional will officially become affiliated with HSHS.
