Hospital merger and acquisition volume dropped in the fourth quarter of 2013, according to preliminary data released by Irving Levin Associates.
The hospital M&A sector saw a 35 percent decline in volume, from 34 deals announced in the fourth quarter of 2012 to 22 in the fourth quarter of last year, according to the data. Deal volume also declined 8.3 percent from 24 deals in the third quarter of 2013.
In the healthcare services and technology sectors overall, a total of 283 deals were announced in the fourth quarter of 2013, down from 306 during the same quarter in 2012. However, overall deal volume increased 4.8 percent from 270 during the third quarter of 2013.
