Metairie, La.-based East Jefferson General Hospital and New Orleans-based University Healthcare System, a partnership between Tulane University in New Orleans and Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare, have ended partnership negotiations, according to The Times-Picayune.
In 2017, the parties signed a letter of intent for University Healthcare System to lease East Jefferson General Hospital. However, they were unable to reach a final agreement.
"East Jefferson General Hospital and UHS worked in good faith for more than a year to put together an innovative, strategic alliance for the community," Henry Shane, East Jefferson general chairman, told The Times-Picayune Aug. 14. "In the discussions with UHS, we proceeded on the basis that the partnership must be an optimum situation for both sides. After an extended period of negotiations, it became apparent just last weekend that the goals of the proposed alliance were not going to be achieved."
Although partnership talks with University Healthcare System have ended, East Jefferson General Hospital is exploring other strategic alliances, Mr. Shane said.
