Good Samaritan Health System in Lebanon, Pa., has signed an affiliation agreement to join nonprofit WellSpan Health, based in York, Pa.
Good Samaritan began seeking an affiliation partner in June 2013. In February, Good Samaritan and WellSpan singed a memorandum of understanding to affiliate.
Since then, the two organizations have been engaged in and completed a due diligence process, which allowed them to get a better understanding of how an affiliation would benefit Good Samaritan and WellSpan, as well as each of the system's patients.
The affiliation agreement has been approved by both organizations' boards and has been submitted for regulatory review.
"We believe this affiliation will help improve healthcare in LebanonCounty and throughout the WellSpan Health service area," said Kevin H. Mosser, MD, president and CEO of WellSpan. "By jointly recruiting physicians and by sharing best practices, we'll be able to improve patient access to needed services and continue efforts to delivery the high-quality healthcare that patients deserve."
