Two New York health systems — Albany-based St. Peter's Health Partners and Ellis Medicine in Schenectady — have announced plans to form a regional alliance.
The Innovative Health Alliance of New York will be governed by a board made up mostly of physicians, according to a news release. The alliance will seek to control costs and ensure quality of care by providing a platform for private physicians, Ellis, St. Peter's and other providers to collaborate through joint contracting and sharing incentive-based payments.
The alliance will also allow for the creation and operation of a clinically integrated care network focused on access, quality, population health and costs, according to the release. The physician-led CIN will allow the providers in the alliance to work together to coordinate and improve care delivery, as well as explore new reimbursement models. Additionally, the CIN will examine opportunities including the establishment of an accountable care organization.
"St. Peter's Health Partners and Ellis Medicine both have legacies of leadership and innovation in developing and implementing collaborations that improve access to, and the delivery of, quality health care," said James Reed, MD, president and CEO of St. Peter's, in the release. "This is an exciting initiative that carries a tremendous amount of potential for the future of healthcare in our region."
The formation of the alliance is not a merger, and St. Peter's and Ellis will maintain independent governance, according to the release.
